I used to wonder the same thing. Oprah (and I am one of her biggest fans) refuses to have any rappers on her show (it’s her right since it’s her show), but yet she has Halle Berry on her show, after that nasty movie . It doesn’t make any sense. Personally as a black woman, I felt that giving Halle an Oscar for that movie sent the wrong message to black people and the world. What was the point of that stupid movie anyways. Yuck, I felt like Halle yet many years of good acting and credibility go down the drain.

These woman don’t have agents or acting jobs other than being in videos and a lot of them are putting up with sexual harassment and told to perform sexual acts in order to be in videos. - a man watching his own son kill himslef, now find himself trying to save another person’s child.
- his father being a horrible racist spends his last days being cared for and rooming with a black man.

first of all, i’m not white, so while i thought the movie was fucked up, it didn’t seem to bother most white people. and this goes back to my point about experiences and context. black people would react negatively to a white person with a black face because of history of racism, while whites would just brush it off and/or find it funny.

You say the movie didn’t seem to bother most white people and Monster’s Ball ( I haven’t seen it) hasn’t seemed to bother them or us either since Halle won an Oscar for it, which is the most prestigous award in the acting field, so it must not have been as degrading as you think.
