Weezy is being sued once again:
Lil Wayne is being sued over allegations he’s stolen parts of a song by The Rolling Stones.
Abcko Music Inc alleges that Weezy, his producers and label Universal have plagiarised the Stones’ song Play with Fire- which they own the rights to- on his song Playin’ With Fire. The lawsuit was filed in Manhattan and claims the Wayne track- from his album Tha Carter III- is clearly copied from the Stones track.
The company- which is seeking unspecified damages- also says the lyric “But don’t play with me/ ’cause you’re playing with fire,” is obviously changed by the rapper to “But you can’t blame me/ if I set this stage on fire.” Lil Wayne was this week knocked off the US album chart number one by Nas but Tha Carter III is still likely to be one of the biggest selling LPs of 2008.
This lil nicca stay getting sued…the Bentley, the jewelry, he even was sued for making it rain on hoes. SMH. This suit seems rather legitimate, but don’t rappers “borrow” material on the regular?

Lil’ Kim and Foxy Brown are used having the book thrown at ‘em — just not actually writing them. The two felonius rappers just got sued by Simon & Schuster, the publishing house, for failing to deliver on books they were paid to write. And it’s not like they didn’t have the time to write ‘em — both spent long stints in prison; Kim for perjury, Foxy for assault. S&S wants their money back — over $100K in total — with interest. Neither rapper’s lawyer could be immediately reached.

Anywayz! You can’t take lyrics and change them a lil bit without being sued? I haven’t heard either song but this line that they quoted must be from the hooks of one of the songs or both. Well, I hope for Wayne’s sake that it doesn’t go to court and the Stones win. Rappers are always “borrowing” someone else’s lines; even from each other. The titles are similar and that line being used over and over is probably what’s causing this suit. Rappers may “borrow” lines, but certain artists copyright their materials to avoid this. The record labels have people that listen to the albums/read lyrics etc. before they release the albums, so if they thought it was going to be a problem, they would have said something up front.
