Ho Sit Down

This drawn up, skeletor looking mf called out Spike Lee for commenting on his racist casting practices:
Eastwood has rejected the Malcolm X director’s complaint that he had failed to include a single black soldier in his 2006 films Flags Of Our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jima.
Rationalizing his choice, the actor-turned-director explains the African-American troops who were at battle didn’t take part in raising the flag. ‘The story is Flags of our Fathers, the famous flag-raising picture, and they didn’t do that. If I go ahead and put an African-American actor in there, people go: “This guy’s lost his mind”. I mean, it’s not accurate.’
Referring to Lee, Eastwood adds: ‘A guy like him should shut his face.’“
Ole Clint must still think he can roll Dirty Harry style or something. He needs to pull out his bi-focals and read those history books a little closer - then he would see that Spike is on point. Mark-ass geezer.

SMH—he’s starting to look like Cain from Poltergeist…scary, huh?
You folks are dumb, did you know clints partner is black. Thats the only reason why Spike lee is hating.
The only racist here is Spikey boy.
I forgot, 1st mutherfuckers!
@ fluffer
First what??? LOL.
I absoblutely LOVE Bossip and the EDITORS. They make the funnest comments. Keeps me laughing all throughout my LONG WORK DAY.
EXAMPLE:This drawn up, skeletor looking mf
Too funny, pure comedy!
Love Spike but he is hating on Clint sorry…
If you’re really pissed bout it (like when Spike was pissed at Clint for Bird) do something about it and make a better film, I mean you are a film maker right?
Marc ass geezer….. LOL
EASTWOOD HAS A POINT. THERE WERE NO BLACK PPL WHO RAISED THE FLAG AND IF THE MOVIE IS BASED ON THAT THEN MAYBE HE ISNT SO OFF AFTERALL.
@ fluffer, his wife is not black, she is hispanic.
so doesn’t Spike Lee try 2 b accurate when he makes his movies, and he hardly has any white people in his movies n who really cares… get a life Spike
It’s all good, we just need to quadruple the black film population.
You dumb asses at Bossip are the ones who should read a book or two about Iwo Jima. Then you’d realize that Clint isn’t racist. Just factual. Having said that — there are some incredible stories about black soldiers and WW2(Red Ball Express for example). Spike should get his hands on a history book and look up some of those stories and make his own damn movie instead of running his mouth.
spike lee is who i’m mad at he has not mad any good movies recently but goes around running his mouth off at clint and even hip hop he’s wack if you anit go nothing to put up to the plate that wasn’t made 20 years ago go home
Just, it’s weird. I’m a fan of Clints and a big fan of Spikes - the both of them have added so much to the art of filmmaking - but i am disappointed in both at their mutual disrespect.
yet anotha coon detected
“A guy like him should shut his face.” I did not like that line either when i read it this morning.
Clints movies were not general movies about WW2 they were about a specific group of people who were not black in real life. If Spike wants there to be a movie about black people in WW2 then maybe he should get off his ass and make one.
I ashamed and feel sorry for the Latina woman married to racist asshole Clint Eastwood.
Where is his respect for all the black folks that bought his movie tickets all these years? Damn, the racists are like coming out the woodwork showing their ass in full force this season.
Spike Lee is a PIONEER. How dare Eastwood dismiss him like he is not an equal in their field?!!!
pardon my typos. **I am ashamed and feel sorry for…**
trust, this election year, a whOLE lot of Geezes will be getting out of pocket. i see a theme starting..just saying.
Oh, so Hollywood is factual now?
Well I wanna know the eye and hair color height and weight of every white soldier that rose that flag and the actors better be the same exact description or Eastwood is full of shit about total accuracy.
Movies are about acting. White actors play all kinds of films against type. Hell, they used to substitute for us with white people in black face.
Clint Eastwood could have hired at least one black actor. Damn, at least some extras.
Spike Lee is protesting that Eastwood used NONE and we have died and sacrificed for our country even when our country didn’t deserve our sacrifice.
There is nothing wrong about artistic license and liberty to honor this.
BOSSIP…STFU on this one. Tell SPIKE to join you while you’re at it.Spikes’ claim to fame is OVERplaying the race card.It has to be because most of his films are shit.Clint makes better films now than Lee ever will.I might add that Spike has his own WW2 flick coming out now. Can’t imagine he’s trying to draw attention to it? Indeed Black people have served & sacrificed as warriors in every war for this nation…but most Black soldiers fought in Europe & North Africa. The one minority who helped raise the flag @Iwo Jima was American Indian.
You all do know that Clint’s wife is black. I doubt he is a racist.
I love Spike Lee but he like to run his mouth too much. He fell out with Samuel Jackson a while back for running his mouth. He can say what he want to say about Clint Eastwood because he is not hurting for anything.
Clint did the movie on Charlie Bird Parker, but didn’t include his black wife, only the white one. Where is that accuracy?
First off Clint made a movie about Charlie Parker. The cast was 95% black. SPike critized him on that.
Secondly Flags of our Fathers was not a general WWII movie. It was specific. Very specific. It wasn;t about everyone on Iwo Jima, it was about the men who raised the flag. Go to IwoJima.com It tells you all abou the men. 2 were native american, the rest were white. Why would he add a black man in there? For fun? To make spike happy?
If Spike is so concerned about Black people not being shown he needs to shut his mouth and make some movies. Asswipe.
If Clint had added a Black man Spike still wouldn’t be happy. and why is he running his mouth now? the movie was made a while ago.
I added the bios of the men in Iwo Jima…go to http://www.iwojima.com to see their pics.

The front four are (left to right) Ira Hayes, Franklin Sousley, John Bradley and Harlon Block.
The back two are Michael Strank (behind Sousley) and Rene Gagnon (behind Bradley).
Strank, Block and Sousley would die shortly afterwards. Bradley, Hayes and Gagnon became national heroes within weeks.

Mike Strank
b. 1919 Jarabenia, Czechoslovakia.
d. 1945 Iwo Jima, Japan.
Their leader and Sergeant, it was Mike who got the order to climb Mt. Suribachi. Mike picked his “boys” and led them safely to the top. Mike explained to the boys that the larger flag had to be raised so that “every Marine on this cruddy island can see it.” It was Mike who gave the orders to find a pole, attach the flag and “put’er up!”
At home as a boy, Mike was studious, had a photographic memory, played the French Horn and once slugged a baseball out of Points Stadium in Johnstown. In 1936, Mike ran down to the river to see for himself the terrible Johnstown flood. He brought this report back to his family: “Don’t worry–it will recede.”
Mike’s right hand is the only hand of a flagraiser not on the pole. His right hand is around the wrist of Franklin Sousley, helping the younger man push the heavy pole. This is typical of Mike, the oldest of the flagraisers, always there to help one of his boys. Two months before the battle Mike’s Captain tried to promote him but Mike turned it down flat: “I trained those boys and I’m going to be with them in battle,” he said.
Mike died on March 1, 1945. He was hit by a mortar as he was diagramming a plan in the sand for his boys. Mike is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
Harlon Block
b. 1924 Yorktown, Texas.
d. 1945 Iwo Jima, Japan.
Harlon was an outgoing daredevil with many friends at Weslaco High School. A natural athlete, Harlon led the Weslaco Panther Football Team to the Conference Championship. He was honored as “All South Texas End.” Harlon and twelve of his teammates enlisted in the Marine Corps together in 1943.
Harlon was Sgt. Mike’s second-in-command. He took over the leadership of his unit when Sgt. Mike was killed. Harlon was killed by a mortar blast hours later on March 1 at the age of 21.
When his mother Belle saw the Flag Raising Photo in the Weslaco Newspaper on Feb. 25, she exclaimed, “That’s Harlon” pointing to the figure on the far right. But the US Government mis-identified the figure as Harry Hansen of Boston. Belle never wavered in her belief that it was Harlon insisting, “I know my boy.” No one–not her family, neighbors, the Government or the public–had any reason to believe her. But eighteen months later in a sensational front-page story, a Congressional investigation revealed that it was Harlon in the photo, proving that indeed, Belle did “know her boy.”
Harlon is buried beside the Iwo Jima Monument in Harlingen, Texas.

Franklin Sousley
b. Sept. 19, 1925 Hilltop, KY.
d. March 21, 1945 Iwo Jima, Japan.
Franklin was a red-haired, freckle-faced “Opie Taylor” raised on a tobacco farm. His favorite hobbies were hunting and dancing. Fatherless at 9, Franklin became the main man in his mother’s life. Franklin enlisted at 17 and sailed for the Pacific on his 18th Birthday. All that’s left of Franklin is a few pictures and two letters Franklin wrote home to his mother:
————July 1944, Letter from Training Camp:
“Mother, you said you were sick. I want you to stay in out of that field and look real pretty when I come home. You can grow a crop of tobacco every summer, but I sure as hell can’t grow another mother like you.”
————Feb. 27, 1945 Letter from Iwo Jima:
“My regiment took the hill with our company on the front line. The hill was hard, and I sure never expected war to be like it was those first 4 days. Mother, you can never imagine how a battlefield looks. It sure looks horrible. Look for my picture because I helped put up the flag. Please don’t worry and write.”
Franklin was the last flag-raiser to die on Iwo Jima, on March 21 at the age of 19. When word reached his mother that Franklin was dead, “You could hear her screaming clear across the fields at the neighbor’s farm.”
Franklin is buried at Elizaville Cemetery, Kentucky.
Ira Hayes
b. January 12, 1923 Sacaton, Arizona
d. January 24, 1955 Bapchule, Arizona
Ira Hayes was a Pima Indian. When he enlisted in the Marine Corps, he had hardly ever been off the Reservation. His Chief told him to be an “Honorable Warrior” and bring honor upon his family. Ira was a dedicated Marine. Quiet and steady, he was admired by his fellow Marines who fought alongside him in three Pacific battles.
When Ira learned that President Roosevelt wanted him and the other survivors to come back to the US to raise money on the 7th Bond Tour, he was horrified. To Ira, the heroes of Iwo Jima, those deserving honor, were his “good buddies” who died there.
At the White House, President Truman told Ira, “You are an American hero.” But Ira didn’t feel pride. As he later lamented, “How could I feel like a hero when only five men in my platoon of 45 survived, when only 27 men in my company of 250 managed to escape death or injury?”
The Bond Tour was an ordeal for Ira. He couldn’t understand or accept the adulation . . . “It was supposed to be soft duty, but I couldn’t take it. Everywhere we went people shoved drinks in our hands and said ‘You’re a Hero!’ We knew we hadn’t done that much but you couldn’t tell them that.”

Rene Gagnon
b. Manchester, N.H. March 7, 1925
d. Manchester, N.H. October 12, 1979
Rene Gagnon was the youngest survivor and the man who carried the flag up Mt. Suribachi. He was the first survivor to arrive back in the US.

John Bradley
b. July 10, 1923 Antigo, WI.
d. January 11, 1994 Antigo, WI.
“Doc” Bradley was a Navy Corpsman who “just jumped in to lend a hand.” He won the Navy Cross for heroism and was wounded in both legs.
Bradley, a quiet, private man, gave just one interview in his life. In it he said . . .
“People refer to us as heroes–I personally don’t look at it that way. I just think that I happened to be at a certain place at a certain time and anybody on that island could have been in there–and we certainly weren’t heroes–and I speak for the rest of them as well. That’s the way they thought of themselves also.”
(More about John below . . .)

Ira in later years . . .
Ira went back to the reservation attempting to lead an anonymous life. But it didn’t turn out that way . . . “I kept getting hundreds of letters. And people would drive through the reservation, walk up to me and ask, ‘Are you the Indian who raised the flag on Iwo Jima”
Ira tried to drown his “Conflict of Honor” with alcohol. Arrested as drunk and disorderly, his pain was clear . . . “I was sick. I guess I was about to crack up thinking about all my good buddies. They were better men than me and they’re not coming back. Much less back to the White House, like me.”
In 1954, Ira reluctantly attended the dedication of the Iwo Jima monument in Washington. After a ceremony where he was lauded by President Eisenhower as a hero once again, a reporter rushed up to Ira and asked him, “How do you like the pomp & circumstances?” Ira just hung his head and said, I don’t.”
Ira died three months later after a night of drinking. As Ira drank his last bottle of whiskey he was crying and mumbling about his “good buddies.” Ira was 32.

Rene Gagnon in later years . . .
Rene Gagnon carried the flag up Mt. Suribachi.
Rene was modest about his achievement throughout his life.

Museum.

John Bradley in later life . . .
“Of the surviving Flag Raisers, only Bradley was successful in putting his life back together after the war.”
—From the best-selling “Immortal Images” by Tedd Thomey
John Bradley returned to his home town in the Midwest after the war, prospered as the owner of a family business, and gave generously of his time and money to local causes. He was married for 47 years and had eight children.
While Bradley had a public image as a war hero, he was a very private person. He avoided discussion of his war record saying only that the real heros were the men who gave their lives for their country.
The Global Media reported the death of a World War II icon on January 11, 1994 at the age of 70. But his hometown newspaper best captured the essence of Bradley’s life after the war:
“John Bradley will be forever memorialized for a few moments action at the top of a remote Pacific mountain. We prefer to remember him for his life. If the famous flag-raising at Iwo Jima symbolized American patriotism and valor, Bradley’s quiet, modest nature and philanthropic efforts shine as an example of the best of small town American values.”
—Editorial, “The Antigo Daily Journal”
I like Spike Lee but why does he care what Clint Eastwood produces and the absence of black actors in his films?
Spike should produce movies that reflect the part of black soliders in Iwo Jima and let Clint do his movies.
As black people we should not allow believe Hollyfake will produce movies with accurate information and equal representation.
Clint’s movies are for entertainment not history lessons and Spike should know this!!!!!
the bottom line is hollywood is the epitome of racism… And i think EVERYONE should talk less and DO more to make some changes.
Spike Lee’s response:
“First of all, the man is not my father and we’re not on a plantation either. He’s a great director. He makes his films, I make my films. The thing about it though, I didn’t personally attack him. And a comment like ‘a guy like that should shut his face’ — come on Clint, come on. He sounds like an angry old man right there.”
Lee has a proposal for Eastwood — “If he wishes, I could assemble African-American men who fought at Iwo Jima and I’d like him to tell these guys that what they did was insignificant and they did not exist,” he said. “I’m not making this up. I know history. I’m a student of history. And I know the history of Hollywood and its omission of the one million African-American men and women who contributed to World War II.”
And Lee’s response to Eastwood’s claim of his historical ignorance — “I never said he should show one of the other guys holding up the flag as black. I said that African-Americans played a significant part in Iwo Jima,” he said. “For him to insinuate that I’m rewriting history and have one of the four guys with the flag be black … no one said that. It’s just that there’s not one black in either film. And because I know my history, that’s why I made that observation.”
Lee ended the interview saying, “Even though he’s trying to have a Dirty Harry flashback, I’m going to take the Obama high road and end it right here. Peace and love.”

Ms. Sharmaine, hate to knock you off the “daz pickin on us” bandwagon. But, check YOUR history.
No one black was fighting in Japan during WWII. Both of Eastwood’s films are about battles that took place in Japan. Those battles were faught by the Marines and Navy. “Hollyfake” might be for entertainment, but you and Spike are making shit up.
Eastwood’s comments were right on the money. For Spike to run his uneducated at Cannes and pretty much question Eastwood in front of the world, for no reason…”a guy like that”, meaning an asshole like that, was the right thing to say. Spike, be glad he didn’t slap you.
Jesus, the blacks were in the pacific coast. But not in Japan proper.
Clint is 100% right, you Ignorant racist piece of shoots Bossip. Spike Lee is the racist. The movie is about historical accuracy. It was about the flag raisers and NONE of them were black. Spike Lee just wants attention for his movie. For Bossip and blacks who cry racism, remember: “The boy who cried wolf!”
I meant Iwo Jima
Not feeling Eastwood anymore!!!!
Spike was that dopey loud mouth class clown who NEVER got laid. He’s probably still trying to figure out how it is that he could be so mediocre & yet so wildly successful. If the White Man is holding anybody down…you sure could’nt prove it by what’s happening in his world.
Spike Lee is a race-baiter.
sorry but spike lee was out of pocket for this one. don’t disrespect clint eastwood over some bullshit.
the worst part is there is real racism out there that spike lee is belittling by getting his panties in a bunch over this.
PLUS - surprise surprise - spike lee has his own ww2 movie coming out. douchebag.
ever heard of million dollar baby? co-star was black (morgan freeman).
clint is not racist…in his work anyways.
bossip get a life.
LMFAO @ “mark ass geezer”
i am really surprise that Spike even acknowledge the film as history.
History is all lies, all absolutely all are lies.is the western way of demoralizing others and boosting their false ego. we should laugh with them and laugh at them. but never acknowledge they done good, whatever they done they done it wrong and they keep covering it with another lie.
and now bless this old fool clint, got it wrong as well.
anyway my heroes SPIKE + DENEL,love them and am waiting for many, many full of fact films directed by THEM.
the two heroes are SPIKE LEE + AND DENZEL WASHINGTON ,how on earth i made a spelling mistake in spelling DENZEL is beyond me,i adore the guy.
Spike is great and they ran with what he said-He simply made a point that their were black soilders in ww1 and ww2.They might have not been flag fathers but they were their and deserve honor,Just becuase clints partner is black does not mean anything.Blacks are the best business partners ever.We are way more creative and entertaining. That’s why are styles are always being copied. Thanks to spike lee lot’s of people made it in Hollywood.Who’s career did clint start(lol).Spkie lee is one of the oringal best film makers and people need to give him his credit. He never forgets what (these people)really are.Sounds - yes it does thats us (THESE PEOPLE).Now our strenght and power and culture is growing and it can’t be stopped
SPIKE LEE IS JUST A JEALOUS ASS WHO MADE WACK MOVIES OVER THE YEARS AND HE SHOULD SHUT HIS FACE AND MIND HIS OWN DAMN BUSINESS AND LEAVE THE MAN’S MOVIE ALONE…
SPIKE LEE IS THE WORSE DIRECTOR ON THE DAMN PLANET AND HE COULD NOT DIRECT YOU TO THE NEAREST PHONE BOOTH, SPIKE LEE IS WACK IN MY BOOK AND IF HE WANT MOVIES WITH BLACKS IN IT THEN HE SHOULD MAKE HIS OWN DAMN MOVIES AND LEAVE THE MAN AND HIS MOVIE ALONE.
CLINT EASTWOOD IS A VERY GOOD DIRECTOR AND I DON’T BELIEVE HE’S A RACIST.
AND I’M BLACK AND I’M CALLING IT LIKE I SEE IT..
Bossip should stick to booty shots & updates of rappers in jail. Your racial cheerleading for Obama is bad enough but here you idiots are backing that moron Nicks fan, Spike Lee. We are not going to start some kinda of Affirmitve action history here. FACT: There were no blacks in the flag rasing party. By the same token the 2nd film is about the Japanese troops. Fact: Prior to 1942 there were Zero black Marines period. The USMC only had a few thousand & most were in support units and defence batallons. Nor did the Navy have any Corpmen at the time. So What blacks are you filming? Mess stewards & guys offloading boats? The story is based on the book, not a complete documentry of the Battle. And Spike Lee’s response just confirmed what I’ve always thought about the guy. The Barak Obama of Filmaking…….
Spike needs to sit his ‘lil troll ass down. How is Clint being a racist? I have seen both movies and they were accurate in the portrayal of events that occured. Like a poster mentioned before, most Blacks soldiers were stationed in Europe and in the Pacific Rim during WW2. We all know Black and White troops were segregated at that time, so it is unlikely that a Black platoon were instrumental in liberating Iwo Jima. Not saying they were not ANY Black soldiers on Iwo Jima, but none were involved with raising the American flag there.
With that said, Spike don’t know who’s he’s fcuking. That’s Dirty Harry right there, for all you over 30 and remember those movies from back in the day
Holla.
I don’t agree with Spike… it’s a little silly. But Eastwood is a historical revisionist; he softened his portrayal of the Japanese soldiers considerably to create a situation where “we were all just as bad as each other” whereas in reality the Japanese army in World War II was absolutely ruthless toward POWs and in many ways even outdid the Nazis in terms of sheer cruelty. That’s not politically correct to talk about now so Clint cleaned up history a bit. I hang out with veterans and they have indicated that they would rather have been killed than captured by the Japanese.
Spike Lee needs to shut his mysogynistic old behind down. I’m glad Eastwood fired back at him. Lee is a shameless hustler. I recognized that when he tried to sue Spike TV for copyright infringement like he is so important somebody’s going to steal his name. People in my neighborhood don’t even buy bootlegs of his vastly inferior work. He need not even compare himself to Obama. Big, pitiful egotist!
Spike isn’t complaining because he wanted Clint to cast the soldiers who raised the flag as black, he’s mad (and rightly so) cause Clint didn’t cast ONE black soldier in other supporting roles. There were a whole lot of black soldiers fighting and dying in WWII, surely Clint could of fit one of them in somewhere.
Anyways, Spike is the man. He’s produced some great movies, and been one of the few articulate black voices out there, when the rest of the movie industry was content to portray us as thugs and crackheads. I’ll always respect him for what he’s contributed to our community.
Sorry but I have to agree with Clint on this one. Spike Lee wanted him to make a film with historical innacuracies. Spike needs to stop acting like he is speaking for the rest of us, black people. Because he is always making us seem quite ignorant. And everything out of his mouth has to relate to slave days.
We as a people need to learn from our past, come together and move on to a brighter future. Not live in it day and night.
i have to agree with clint but spike does make a point. spike need to let go of some of that anger he has. just because clint didn’t put any black people in the movies doesnt mean anything. there are tons of movies that are historically inacurate in terms of representing african americans. that’s just the way it is.
AS i see it all these rasict comment do”nt mean shit to me because spike is right, And for all my black people hating on spike shame on you, you really belive white people love you for agreeing with clint, you will be the next one swinging from a tree. Trying listening to nas new song and get a education about yourself.before you speak out.
And Spike should show some respect in return. Clint didn’t critique Spikes movies and tell him what color actors to use.
I don’t see what’s so wrong about speaking from the heart. Omitting 1 million black men who have served in World War II is a glaring omission of the people who have honored this country with their lives. Spike was just calling it how he sees it and I see nothing wrong with that.
I loved Iwo Jima..it was a magnificent film; but if you watched that film you wouldn’t even think that African Americans fought in WWII.
Spike is neither right or wrong; but he’s a free man and this is a free country and he’s entitled to say whatever the hell he wants.
I heard Clints wife is black, I actually saw a picture, SHE IS NOT HISPANIC. She is black , well half black and white to be exact. So Spike Lee maybe hating. I actually love it when these brothers show jealousy when they date white, hispanic, asian women then get mad as hell when a white man is with one of thier women.
The same white people who criticize Spike are the same people who want to know why Black people have BET, The NAACP Image awards, Black Comedy, Black Film and other forms of Blackness…
We have them because of glaring omissions such as the one in Clint Eastwood’s film. Glaring omissions from the Culture of Power and the Golden Rules of Hollywood.
The Golden Rule is that “He who has the Gold: Makes the Rules.” We have to constantly fight to get the truth about our story told; because we don’t own the gold.
People wanna call Spike racist; but then get mad when we have our own forums and our own films. We need depositories of our culture; because the culture of power will try it’s damnedest to pretend that we haven’t given anything to this society called America.
If if weren’t for historians like Alex Haley, Dr. John Henrik Clarke, Henry Louis Gates, Dr. John Hope Franklyn, Ira Berlin, Howard Zinn and countless others; African-Americans would be an Asterisk in the History books. Nothing more; nothing less.
And that would be a shame because our history IS American history. It’s not separate from White History; it’s one and the same. Unfortunately; Americans; black and white are highly ignorant of this fact because they are simply not educated about history.
Do you think Mr. “Make My Day” has the gall to tell Black World War II Veterans that their story or their image or presence in a film is not needed?
Dina Ruiz Eastwood (born July 11, 1965) is perhaps best known as a news anchor for KSBW-TV.
She was born Dina Ruiz in Castro Valley, California. Her father was of African-American and Japanese descent, her mother was of Irish, English and German descent.[1] She is the wife of actor/director Clint Eastwood, who she first met for an interview in 1993, and has acted in two of his films, True Crime (1999) and Blood Work (2002). The couple have one daughter, Morgan (born December 12, 1996). Dina, who graduated from Mission San Jose High School in Fremont, California, and later majored in Journalism while in college at Fresno State University, currently co-hosts the TV show Candid Camera.
She was also a news anchor in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Spike Lee is a pile of dog shit, I wish I could take a steamy diarrhea right on his face and then piss on him. That would shut him up. Even as an old man, Clint is still creative, Lee lost his edge years ago. FUCK SPIKE LEE, FUCKING FAGGOT RACIST BAITING FUCK!
Everyone is most definately entitled to their own opinion. Question did Clint write the movie or just direct it?
i am with dirty harry.there were no black soldiers raising thev flag.the film was a movie based on facts and actual characters .there were no black men storming those beaches as the infantry with black soldiers were all in europe and all the black ppl in the pacific at that time were the ones cooking on the ships as blacks were still suffereing discrimination in the military back then.heck the movie had a native american(who actually existed) as one of its central characters so the rasicm charge goes out the door.black dudes werent really out there like that in the pacific.and most importantly clint is not obliged to put any black guy in his movie running for the beach.not everything is rasicm related.spike just wanted to cause controversy for his own movie.
And BOSSIP you selectively only tell one side of the story!!
As reported elsewhere:
Spike Lee then further fueled the drama fire saying, “First of all, the man is not my father and we’re not on a plantation either. He’s a great director … I didn’t personally attack him. And a comment like “A guy like that should shut his face,” come on Clint, come on. He sounds like an angry old man right there.”
Well put VB
Damn bossip you fucked up on this one. Clint made a historically accurate film and Spike feels the need to bitch about it? Spike step your mone making game up man, dont try to get in the papers with shit like this. All you do is shit on whites, Italians, et. al. Make a movie about what the black soldiers contributed if it is such a big concern to you, and make it historically accurate. Only history based movie you ever made was Malcolm X so you obviously dont care to much about the history of black men and what they have brought to this country, or at least you dont care to put your money behind it and make a film about it. Please dont go the Jesse route and constantly bitch about what the white man is doing while doing nothing to better the prospects of your brothers and sisters.
I’m a huge Spike Lee Fan but Did Spike have any main black actors in Son of Sam or 25th Hour? He needs to calm down. First he attacked Quentin Tarantino now Clint. He needs to stop hating and worry about his own movies.
“Thanks to spike lee lot’s of people made it in Hollywood.Who’s career did clint start(lol).”
As a black person, I think Spike should thank Hollywood for his career. If his movies weren’t so loved by critics, he’d be directing low-rent, crappy BET productions filmed in Lo-def. And because of Clint, the following actors have or had good careers
Mario Van Peebles who was in Heartbreak Ridge with Clint Eastwood.
Forest Whitaker who was in Bird, which was directed by Eastwood.
Dennis Haysbert, who’s career was already on the rise, blew up after appearing in Absolute Power, directed by Eastwood.
Isaiah Washington, who blew up after appearing in True Crime, directed by Eastwood.
Of course, that’s just off the top of my head right now. And yeah, Spike needs to STFU. Flags of our Fathers wasn’t about the whole damn army, it was about those few men who raised the flag.
CLINT EASTWOOD IS COOL AS HELL,AND HAS NEVER BEEN AFRAID TO CAST BLACKS IN GOOD MOVIE ROLLS.SPIKE AND BOSSIP ARE GETTING VERY IGNORANT,BUT I’M NOT SURPRISED.
My grandfather fought in WWII, so I know for a fact we were there. A black person didn’t have to be central to the story, but it would have helped if one was in the background.
@ De
Agreed.
@ SPIKE LEE SUPPORTERS
I AGREE 100%
CTFU @ mark ass geezer. Bossip, yall ignorant.
You make yourself look like fools when you unquestioningly support Spike just because hes black. Hes wrong, plain and simple. How foolish to suggest it would be better to be historically inaccurate for the sake of diversity.
Spike Lee made a valid point in support of black history and black actors , and you self hating coonish aunt jemima and uncle tom blacks in here …defending the white man till the very end putting down spike because he was just givin an example with clint of how HOLLYWOOD continues to ignore the contributions that blacks have made .There was no reason why Clint could not have included black soldiers who ( for a fact ) fought in Japan in wwII we have lodge in our town of wwII soldiers whof fought in Japan and several of them some who have died are and were black( so for those of you who said there were none your history is 100% wrong!!!!) Clint could have included them in the background story if not directly in actions with raising the flag ..yet he CHOSE NOT TOO. I have seen several movies about black history where HOLLYWOOD AND PRODUCERS LIKE CLINT MANAGE TO PUT WHITES IN IT when it was NOT NECESSARY AT ALL, so likewise why not include blacks in this hitorical movie when it would have made very good sense and be factual.
This was spike point that hollywood has been ignoring blacks for too long. Why should it be only for black producers to make black movies. This is why spike called Clint out on this. With damn good reason!!!
I believe a lot of the Spike haters in here are fuckin white trolls who come here to sniff some black ass because you have no purpose !!
The rest of you if you black or fuckin biracial then damn , you know how lick deep into the white mans ass to prove your a
… DAMN GOOD HERE NIGGA YES SA,MASSA
It’s about time someone told Spike Lee to shut up. It annoys me how 95% of the time, he’s always talking about racism. He’s not doing the black community any favors. He’s only fueling racial tensions.
To put black soliders raising the flat would not have been accurate. So Eastwood’s right. BUT, in that accuracy, Eastwood should have illustrated WHY black soliders didn’t raise the flag. I think think that’s the point Spike is trying to make. Black soldiers during WW2, were mostly relegated to kitchen duty or other non-combat duties or rank. Hell, the armed forces weren’t even integrated until Harry Truman said, “hold up.”
And exactly how many white people does Spike feature in his films?
Speak with your work, not criticisms of another filmmaker’s craft.
Too bad Spike wants to bring racism into the media when there wasn’t any racism going on when this movie was made. Eastwood directs with true facts; he is not a racist. Spike should really look at himself. Eastwood is an excellent actor or director. Bossip, before you even post, please find the facts first. You are feeding negativity.
Hey…this is nothing new. Remember Cleopatra was played by Elizabeth Taylor!

Anyone taking these comments to heart should be ashamed at themselves…i think Spike was just making an observation and when has that ever been a crime, as much as I like Clint, he didn’t have to tell Spike to “shut his face,” that was unprofessional and uncalled for, he could’ve said his peace in a much classier way, so for this mess Clint losses two points regardless…SMH

Could you be anymore of a whiner.. Try it.. im sure you could whine all day long…
Dam you sound pathetic.. talk about paranoid..
Waaaaaaa
Who cares. He’s old and about to croak. He words are meaningless. Spike Lee did what he should have, and that was to not say anything more about the subject. We all know that white folk dont want us to know about us doing anything positive or what we have contributed to this country. We have to find out for ourselves.
We all learn something knew everyday. Screw Clint….just make sure this geriatric has a bed available in the nursing home soon.
