I luv that “frank” album.. I really know what you mean. Ive been a major fan since ‘03 when I visted Paris and discovered her on a hip hop/ r&b compliation cd called “Later w/ Jools Holland” She performed (LIVE) “Stronger” and I’ve been hooked ever since. when I came home I immediately downloaded “Frank” and told everybody and their grandmother about her.. I was on a mission! I even applied for a bar job at a music venue (Highline Ballroom) in nyc just so i could meet her. I actually got the gig and was given the honor of being her hospitality barmaid. It was fucking amazing.. mind you this was May of last yr. She was skinny as hell but etremly nice.. really humbled and seemed surprise when people gushed over her. She had a lot more weight on her too.. I could sense that her people could really give a shit. Her husband (fiance at that time) was also really nice but you could tell he had a dark side.. an absolute druggie.
This shyt really breaks my heart.. Her talent as you said is effortless and just on another level. Amy on a really sober day could knock out Beyonce, Rhi Rhi, Keisha Cole hell even freaking Alicia Keys. Her vocal range is really just that hot.

I listen to “Frank” and “Back to Black” almost everyday. She is the real deal. You can here the pain in her voice and lyrics. But for real, I hear a lot of Lauryn Hill in her voice. Like on “What is it bout men”.

It’s funny u mention L-Boogie b/c when I first heard her on that compilation DVD–which u should absolutely see. it’s on Youtube– I immediately envisioned her in the states doing a duet w/ Lauryn, D’Angelo and even Ebadu. I swear I literally tear up everytime I see crazy shit on her. This dude I meet on a HBO forum who lives in England told me the media’s on her like they are w/ Brittany Spears here. He said it’s “massive”

Basically, I just wanted to tell you that you won’t be disappointed. Check out “Back to Black” too. Really listen to the lyrics. She writes for herself. If she were just some self-destructive media whore, I wouldn’t be wasting my time thinking about her. But, dayum - I love her music. She’s terribly candid and honest in her lyrics. And her delivery is incredibly soulful without being fake. That’s why she’s the real deal.

I don’t know “Back to Black” didn’t capture me the way “Frank” did. Back to Black” due to all the late ass buzz and me being her #1 fan continued listening to the album until it started to grow on me. I really luv the title track song and “I’m no good” the rest I don’t really care for as much. It’s like the album has this 60ish sound throughout the entire project but in “Frank” her sound & music was way more diverse. The album didn’t sound the same throughout the songs. I don’t know if u feel me w/ that.
Oh and about HCR. They have a live show every weds from 8-10pm but if u can’t tune in at that time you can download the podcast for FREE!! They kinda sleeping on Amy too but I still luv the show.
