^^ I would too Cage…he about five hours away from me…I think I want to have a couple of pairs done for myself. One pair of my son and one pair of Obama.

I checked out the Myspace page this person is very talented I esp. liked the brown (I think is was) crocodile shoes.

  7. (Check me out!)

I would rock them only if they were free or the price DRASTICALLY REDUCED. I don’t understand how buying these shoes (the air force one camp will get most of OUR money from the sale of the shoes) would be beneficial to the campaign. I could see a shirt cause that would only be a few dollars but $100+ pair of sneakers? Don’t think so. They should be encouraging us to spend our money (at least an amount like that) on something that would actually be worth it and could be greatly utilized. Is this another ploy for “the man” to make some more money off of us? what yall think?

    MUST READ!!!!!!!!!!
LOOK AT HOW WE ARE VIEWED BY OTHER RACES!!!!!!

    DEAR BLACK AMERICANS,

After all of these years and all we have been through together, we think it’s appropriate for us to show our gratitude for all you have done for us. We have chastised you, criticized you, punished you, and in some cases even apologized to you, but we have never formally nor publicly thanked you for your never-ending allegiance and support to our cause.

This is our open letter of thanks. We will always be in your debt to you for your labor. You built this country and were responsible for the great wealth we still enjoy today. Upon your backs, laden with the stripes we sometimes had to apply for disciplinary reasons, you carried our nation.

We thank you for your diligence and your tenacity. Even when we refused to allow you to even walk in our shadows, you followed close behind believing that someday we would accept you and treat you like men and women. We publicly acknowledged Black people for raising our children, attending to our sick, and preparing our meals while we were occupied with the trappings of the good life.

Even during the time when we found pleasure in your women and enjoyment in seeing your men lynched, maimed and buried, some of you continued to watch over our belongings and us. We simply cannot thank you enough.

Your bravery on the battlefield, despite being classified as three-fifths of a man, was and still is outstanding. We often watched in awe as you went about your prescribed chores and assignments, sometimes laboring in the hot sun for 12 hours, to assist in realizing our dreams of wealth and good fortune.

Now that we control at least 90 percent of all of the resources and wealth of this nation, we have Black people to thank the most. We can only think of the sacrifices you and your families made to make it all possible.

You were there when it all began, and you are still with us today, protecting us from those Black people who have the tremerity to speak out against our past transgressions. Thank you for continuing to bring 95 percent of what you earn to our businesses.

Thanks for buying our Hilfigers, Karans, Nikes, and all the other brands you so adore. Your super-rich athletes, entertainers, intellectuals, and businesspersons (both legal and illegal) exchange most of their money for our cars, jewelry, homes, and clothing. What a windfall they have provided for us!

The less fortunate among you spend all they have at our neighborhood stores, enabling us to open even more stores. Sure, they complain about us, but they never do anything to hurt us economically. Allow us to thank you for not bogging yourself down with the business of ding business with your own people. WE can take care of that for you.

You just keep doing business with us. It’s safer that way. Besides, everything you need, we make anyway, even Kente cloth. You just continue to dance, sing, and distrust and hate one another.

Have yourself a good time, and this time we’ll take of you. It’s the least we can do, considering all you’ve done for us. Heck, you deserve it, Black people. For all your labor, which created our wealth, for your resisting the messages of trouble making Blacks like Washington, Delany, Garvey, Bethune, Tubman, and Truth, for fighting and dying on our battlefields, we thank you.

And we really thank you for not reading about the many Black warriors that participated in the development of our great country. We thank you for keeping it hidden from younger generations. Thank you for not bringing such glorious deeds to our attention.

For allowing us to move into your neighborhoods, we will forever be grateful to you. For your unceasing desire to be near us and for hardly ever following through on your threats due to our lack of reciprocity and equity - we thank you so much.

We also appreciate your acquiescence to our political agendas, for abdicating your own economic self-sufficiency, and for working so diligently for the economic well-being of our people. You are real troopers.

And, even though the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments were written for you and many of your relatives died for the rights described therein, you did not resist when we changed those Black rights to civil rights and allowed virtually every other group to take advantage of them as well.

Black people, you are something else! Your dependence upon us to do the right thing is beyond our imagination, irrespective of what we do to you and the many promises we have made and broken. But, this time we will make it right, we promise. Trust us.

Tell you what. You don’t need your own hotels. You can continue to stay in ours. You have no need for supermarkets when you can shop at ours 24 hours a day. Why should you even think about owning more banks? You have plenty now. And don’t waste your energies trying to break into manufacturing. You worked hard enough in our fields.

Relax. Have a party. We’ll sell you everything you need. And when you die, we’ll even bury you at a discount. How’s that for gratitude?

Finally, the best part. You went beyond the pale and turned over your children to us for their education. With what we have taught them, it’s likely they will continue in a mode similar to the one you have followed for the past 45 years (since school desegregation).

When Mr. Lynch walked on the banks of the James River in 1712 and said he would make us a slave for 300 years, little did he realize the truth of his prediction. Just 13 more years and his promise will come to fruition. But with two generations of your children having gone through our education system, we can look forward to at least another 50 years of prosperity.

Things could not be better - it’s all because of you. For all you have done, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Black-Americans. You’re the best friends any group of people could ever have!

    Sincerely,

    All other Americans

    @ SOUTHERN BELLE 225 & my words…

I feel you on your questions of where the money would go but I think these would serve more so as free advertising. Younger, voting age, kids that are NOT paying attention to the commercials or the webposts on Obama might be intrigued to find out what the fuzz is all about and actually be encouraged to vote.

Also, I INVEST in Nike stocks (for self and for my 2 year old son) so I only wear and buy Nikes. It’s high time we started investing in what we buy so we don’t feel we just giving back to “the man”

  14. (Check me out!)

@notorius one..I get where you are coming from and you have a great point. I’m not against the shoes I just think that that could be money well spent on something else. that’s all. On the other hand, it would be a good tool to get the young minds thinking and voting. But considering the fact that most black folks don’t have stock in these companies, I feel like they shouldn’t get our hard earned money. However, I wouldn’t be opposed to a black owned shoe company getting in on this. I would definately get on board then.

  15. (Check me out!)

Forget all that other crap those shoes are FRESH! One thing I would change is the laces to white. Other than that everything else is irrelevant.

IT IS FUNNY HOW SO MANY PEOPLE THINK THEY ARE DOING OBAMA A FAVOR.
HE SAID IT HIMSELF HE WAS UNHAPPY WATCHING THE OBAMA GIRL.
HE IS RUNNING FOR A PRESEIDENTIAL OFFICE AND SOME PEOPLE THINK HE IS RUNNING FOR A HOOD POSITION.
THIS IS NOT A JOKE BLACKS.
THIS IS NOT A JOKE I REPEAT.
WE SHOULD DO MUCH MORE BETTER THINGS FOR OUR COUNTRY, AND NOT JUST WORSHIPPING WHO THE MEDIA EMBRACES.
OBAMA IS OKAY, BUT WHAT DOES HE STAND FOR.
HE GIVES GREAT SPEECHES COS THEY ARE WRITTEN FOR HIM, BUT CAN’T HAVE A DEBATE WELL.
BLACKS WE NEED TO THINK B4 WE CAST A VOTE.

  21. gravatar NotoriousOne
    (Check me out!)

    @ Southern Belle 225…

I guess that would be my REAL issue, the fact that we DON’T look to invest in these companies. It’s not that we can’t. I mean a stock of Nike is going for $62. And being from the NYC, I know cats that spend that much after being at a club for just an hour.
The other way to look at it is that the brother that’s doing these sneakers IS a brother and he’s the one making at least SOME of the profits. Hopefully if this brother is smart he’ll reach out to Nike or one of the other sneaker companies and pitch his idea so he can get a real cut of the profit.

@notorius…yes hopefully he will do so. isn’t it sad though that we have to do things like “sneakers” in order to grab the attention of our youth? you won’t see any of the white candidates doing this. SMH..but, i do like the shoe i cannot lie. i hope the artist gets his recognition if nothing else.

  25. gravatar (:-)
    (Check me out!)

oh, this president campaign appears to be a joke to some people. i have never seen a white president candidate face on a sneakers, so why put obama face on a sneakers, is it because he is black , and as i can see a bunch of you would actually go an buy them chk ( for the right price) i guess whoever design those sneakers i bet he is not black , and just know that black folks would go out and buy them.

  26. gravatar NotoriousOne
    (Check me out!)

    @ I LOVE MY PEOPLE…

Are you implying that whoever might wear these sneakers is NOT doing Obama a favor? I understand his objection to the Obama girl cause that’s mixing sex w/ politics, a dicey situation at best. But these sneakers are just another form of free advertising, in the same way a t-shirt or button advertises. The only difference is that these sneakers might catch the eye of an 18 or 19 year old that is NOT inclined to vote because he is not really up on who’s running. But these sneakers might change just one young mind, change their thought and make them think about who is Obama and encourage him to look him up and at least her what he has to say.
As for what Obama stands for, just the fact that he’s promoting “CHANGE” is good enough for a lot of people. Politicians will promise you the stars and the moon if they think it’ll get them your vote. But the fact of the matter is a lot of other tangibles, i.e., make up of Congress & House of Reps, the economy, etc., need to be factored in in order to bring forth effective change. So I’d rather a politician tell me he’s at least looking to change the current status as opposed to giving me specific promises on healthcare, the economy, the GNP, immigration, only to have him/her back out of those promises once they reach office.

  27. gravatar NotoriousOne
    (Check me out!)

    @ Southern Belle 225…

You’re right, it is sad that we have to resort to things like “sneakers” in order to grab the attention of our youth. Like you I also like the shoe. There was a report on CNN a few days ago at how some of the old political buttons are worth hundreds of dollars. But it’s the limited editions and one of a kind type buttons, that are made by small unions, churches, support groups…basically buttons that are unique, that skyrocket in value. From that perspective I definitely think that these sneakers would classify as such. And if you got them signed by Obama that would definitely be a great “investment”.

  28. gravatar KnowYourABCs

We (Americans) commercialize EVERYTHING. Oh, the beauty of living in a capitalist society.

  38. Thanks for the love and for the criticism. I made the sneakers to show my support for Senator Barack Obama.Unlike many customizers I try to make a few shoes with substance along with the Tupacs,Slim Thugs etc.I do plan on starting my own shoe brand so I wouldnt have to use Nike as an vehicle to express myself. So this was not a joke, I dont work for the Clintons and proceeds from this shoe does go towards the campaign. How does this help Obama? Dont know if it will or not Im just using what God gave me to reach out to people. Not just young people, but everyone as a whole.I also made these shoe to do something different, so yes this would seem foreign to some but thats okay. Why stick to the norm? But like I said I appreciate all who took the time to praise or knock the shoes.Take care.

  48. gravatar legallybrown

I feel like most folks are missing the point of the shoes. They are not ABOUT the Obama campaign, so whether the $$ goes back to him or not is irrelevant. Its about an artist that uses shoes as a canvas, and whose subject is pretty much anything related to popular culture. If you look at his website it has shoes with everything from Barney (the purple dinosaur) to Bob Marley to Omega Psi Phi.

I really don’t think that the fact that it’s a black man running for pres, or the underlying “seriousness” of the campaign has anything to do with it. Its about the broader popular cultural significance of this entire race, and particularly the extensive inclusion of young people in this race.

  49. gravatar legallybrown

…Obama (and his campaign), at this point is a symbol for the cultural moment that he represents, that will have significance beyond whether or not he gets elected (and not just for being the first viable black candidate). Its like the image of monica lewinsky, or hanging chads, or willie horton. Its more akin to memorializing the moment in a work of art, than trying to pander to black people who dont know better (as many of these comments seem to suggest).

I posted a link to this on the blog at barackobama.com for all to see. There’s no difference in the shoes and all the buttons, stickers, t-shirts, posters etc. that are for sale all over the web. As far as it being better to donate the money to the campaign–that’s a good argument, but you could buy the shoes–then go neighborhood canvassing in them!!!

    Let’s face it–

This is no different than all them damn buttons and bumper stickers from previous elections. Or maybe it is–maybe it’s the stereotype surrounding Obama and the stereotype surrounding blacks and uptowns or “AF1’s” as some would call them!

    @ Holding My Own-

Another nigger full of contradictions. You say something positive, but we *see* where you mind is….. You can’t possibly want me to believe that you are ready for CHANGE within America when your mentality is so BET. You don’t want change. You bask in the fuckery, bufoonery, and ignorance we call everyday life. Grow up.

PS- Not hating cuz it’s a great shot. Just ill-timed, ill-placed, and all out tacky. There is no sense of DISCRETION in today’s society. By the way, the term ‘Nigger’ and not ‘nigga’ was used purposely here. Don’t get it twisted.

Who the hell cares what white people are doing. Thats part of the problem. Blacks are always comparing themselves to white people. We are not them and they are not us. We are an artistic people. So freakin what if someone decided to capitalize on the elections. That white people have done for years. Damn. They are fly as hell and I would buy a pair for my son. The reason is because he would be promoting someone he believes in and doing it in a way that his peers can respect and realte to. If you dont want to spend the money on them, then dont. And for all of those who say where is the money going to? Just make sure you are donating to Obamas cause OK.
