Maya Angelou recently expressed her support for Hillary Clinton with a silent diss towards Obama:

Why do all these old-time chitlin’ era civil rights leaders feel obligated to support and play puppet for the shady Clintons? As we saw in S.C., these old-timers are disconnected with what the people want. SMH.

Mya Angelou is old school. My grandmother is 81 years old and she almost lost her mind (what’s left of it) when she heard a woman could possibly be President. They are stuck in the old days when a womans place is in the kitchen and doing what her husband wants her to do. Now that the opportunity for that to change has come, they are going to jump on it. With them it isn’t a black thing, because black men have always overpowered them (in their minds). They are more about woman rights. I don’t think anything is wrong with that but it’s just where they are s tuck at right now.

Maya Angelou has been a pillar in the black community, her grace and eloquence is one of a kind. But we must always remember, choice is what makes life so grand. I do not expect African American citizens to vote for Obama simply because he is black, but a problem arise when you refuse to vote for him because he is “black”. The funny thing is, Obama is biracial, not black, but i guess the one-drop rule is still embedded in our minds as well as the general public. Maya Angelou, may simply support Hilary because she feels she is the right person for he job; but at the same time, a woman of Maya Angelou stature should should be a little more aware of the times we are living in. It seems as if most ” old school blacks” have a disdain for Mr. Obama and a genuine love for the Clinton’s, maybe this can be the effects of trickled down colonialism that still lingers subconsciously in their minds. We all know that some blacks have the “if it’s not white, its not right” mantra, therefore, they are stunted when it comes to personal, economic, mental and spiritual growth. I do not support any of these candidates, they seem to glaze over important issues at hand and digress from what is really happening in our country. However, if i was to evaluate each candidate based on character, and and make a decision between Hilary or Obama, that would be an easy choice, Obama all the way. Most people are ignorant towards the mischief that surrounds the Clinton and Bush family, these people should not be taken for face value, but hey, what do i know. Most blacks will continue to enshroud themselves in the Clinton’s because they feel prosperity will knock at their door if Hilary and Bill are back in the white house. There is only one problem with that belief. If you are uneducated, living in poverty an squalor, due to your own ignorance, it doesn’t matter who is in the white house, your current situation will stay stagnant. That’s why i find it hard to bash Maya Angelou for her statement. This is an educated woman who is exercising her amendment right to her freedom of speech as well as her God given right to freedom of choice. More blacks need to follow in her foot steps and educate themselves in public institutions of higher learning. Instead of bickering about who she endorses, try bickering about what graduate school, law school or medical school you want to attend.
I guess when Oprah sees that Maya supported Hillary and not Obama, Maya will be removed from her will and anything else Oprah had in mind for her.

Wow…you can only strengthen the future by respecting the past. To label her in a category such as ho or consider her an old time civil rights activist is definitely incorrect. We all have a choice of how to fight our battles, Obama has entered into a war and now he must fight his battles. For the first time I have to give Obama the respect that is due, for the speech he gave in S.C…spoke as if he were already president….over the next couple days I realized that the only differences btwn he and the Clintons is his time in Office and the way the has fought for the rights of the people. He is the same old politician he just has a black face and a message of hope and change for the people. He is an insider, he once was the lobbyist that he despises.
