There’s so much to say, but so little time. Listen everyone, here’s the point that’s being missed. There’s nothing wrong with slang, and yes, we all use it, but when you need to properly & effectively construct an argument to get your point across, It’s best served to use correct grammar. If you ever want to be taken seriously in today’s society, then you better be able to properly develop and express your point.
Sure we can all take it to a street level and hurl insults at one another, but what does that really prove? I think it shows the intellectual level, or lack thereof of the individual. I think Lauryn Hill said it best when she said “I add a muthafucka to it/so all you ignorant nigga’s hear me”
On the financial issue, what you “young’ens” need to understand is this. White people tolerate us! When you’re no longer financially viable or beneficial to them, you’re cast aside for the next hot young flavor of the month. Record execs know this, which is why they go out and get these young misinformed kids to shake their ass and get an entire generation to blindly follow behind them. A lot of rappers have their own label, but don’t sit at the head of any major companies or distriburtors. My point is this, when they have to go in and ask Mr. Charlie for his money, you better believe they treat it like a business deal: suit, tie, the whole 9.
On the topic of the music, we’re all to blame. If we the consumer held our artists accountable to the quality then we wouldn’t be bombarded with the likes of Lil’ Wayne, Yung Joc, Jeezy, Soulja Boy…this list could get long real quick. Instead, what you get is a bunch of mindless shines, who in order to get a quick buck, make this mindless “music” with no lyrical content whatsoever. Then we, the consumer, run out…mindlessly and buy it. Look, anyone who goes out and buys a Souljah Boy, Jeezy, or Joc album looking to be enlightened intellectually and criticizes the artist when they aren’t is fooling themselves. I think the problem is that the job that these so called “artists” are suppose to do well, they don’t do well. Point out the fact that Joc is blessed with greats beats, but nothing more than that, or that Jeezy is just well…flat out wack, or Souljah Boy is corny and you’ll be met with the same rebuttal. “You jussta hata, Fuck you Hata!!” That’s what a true hip-hop fan does, they take the music, listen to it, dissect it, study it, and call the artist out if it’s hot or trash. What we have now is a bunch of mindless yammering about nothing, that gets a ton of airplay, and then we’re too embarrassed to play it 3 months later. Wake up generation Y, Z, Pi, or whatever the hell you are and question what’s being fed to you and hold the artist accountable.
